Something I've been meaning to say

Olàolúwàkitàn,my head's beenin the cloudssince I met you.

You have a way of making everything feel lighter. Like the whole sky opened up and my head has been in the clouds since the day we met. Two dates, three Sundays, and a feeling I still cannot quite explain.

The story so far

The beginning, in
six scenes.

It started with a conversation. Then it became two dates, three Sundays, and a hundred small things that made my head feel lighter.

SCENE 0127.09.26

01THE NIGHT

The night we met.

Ibraheem introduced us, and a little later you came to stand in front of me. We talked, danced, joked, and laughed. After a few hours your friends wanted to leave, so you went with them. Then my phone lit up: “should I come back?” I thought you were joking. You were not. You came back. That is the part I keep replaying.

“You asked if you should come back.”

02THE FIRST DATE

Away from the noise.

The first date was random. I asked you to a nearby spot with two hours’ notice, and somehow you said yes. It was more or less just us. We talked, found more things we had in common, and it felt a little surreal. I was so immersed in experiencing you that I forgot to take a single photo.

“I was too immersed in experiencing you to remember a photo.”

03THE SECOND DATE

Somehow, already a habit.

After church, we went to a Chinese restaurant. We ate, drank, and flirted all through it. The drive, your smile, a laugh I did not want to end. It felt less like a plan and more like a habit I wanted to keep.

“You made an ordinary day feel like the part I would remember.”

P.S. I still don’t agree you initiated the date.

04THREE SUNDAYS

Three Sundays in.

Church with you three times now. I did not know something so quiet could feel like such a big deal. Sitting beside you, singing beside you, walking out into the rest of the day beside you.

“It already feels like something I do not want to miss.”

05THE SMALL THINGS

Your hand in mine.

Your rings, your laugh mid-sentence, the way you reach for me like it is nothing. It is the small things I keep replaying, the ones that keep my head in the clouds without me even noticing.

“I noticed. I am still noticing.”

06SINCE THEN

And then it became every day.

Somewhere between the dates, the Sundays, the texts, and the plans, you became the part of the week I look forward to. Every day since has had that same lifted feeling: my head in the clouds, with no plans of coming down.

“Still not over it. Not even close.”

The little things

A few things
I noticed.

A non-exhaustive list, in no particular order, of the reasons I am still thinking about you.

Tap a card. I will show you what I mean.

The numbers

The numbers so far.

I am not saying it is fate. I am just saying the math is doing something.

A small confession

I am not usually this bold about how I feel. But after two dates, three Sundays, and a lot of talking, “I like you” started to feel too small. You make ordinary days feel lighter, like my head has been in the clouds and I am in no hurry to come down. I like how easy this is. I would like to see where it goes.

Olumide

The question

Olàolúwàkitàn,will you be mygirlfriend?

No giant speech. No pressure. Just a boy who is really glad you came back, and even happier you kept showing up.

No pressure. Take your time.

THE FINE PRINT

More dates, more Sundays, an unreasonable number of texts, and me showing up. No pressure. No expiry.

P.S. You can take your time. I am not going anywhere.
